ESD Health is committed to ensuring that esdhealthcare.com is accessible to people with disabilities. We design and develop this site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
1. Our Commitment
Accessibility is a core requirement, not an afterthought. We believe clinical and care information should be available to every visitor — including older adults, family members, and clinicians using assistive technology. Accessibility considerations are part of our design reviews, content authoring, and engineering process.
2. Standards Followed
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance target.
- Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act (where applicable to materials we provide to facility partners).
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) effective communication principles.
3. Accessibility Features
- Semantic HTML structure with a single H1 per page and meaningful headings.
- Keyboard navigation for all interactive elements.
- Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields.
- Color contrast meeting or exceeding WCAG AA ratios for text and essential UI components.
- Alt text on informative images and ARIA labels where appropriate.
- Form fields with persistent labels, clear error messages, and inline validation.
- Respect for the
prefers-reduced-motionmedia query — animations are minimized for visitors who request reduced motion. - Responsive design supporting zoom up to 200% without loss of content or function.
- Print stylesheet for clinical and partner documentation.
4. Known Limitations
We are continuously improving the site. Known areas under active work include:
- Photography alt-text refinement as final imagery is added.
- PDF documents — we are migrating older documents to tagged, accessible PDFs.
5. Assistive Technology Compatibility
The site is tested with current versions of major screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) on current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. If you use a different configuration and encounter a barrier, please contact us.
6. Alternative Means of Access
If any part of this site is inaccessible to you, we will provide the information through an alternative channel — by phone, email, large print, or in-person — at no cost. Contact us using the information below and we will respond within five business days.
